Served at room temp.
Poured into my Duvel tulip glass.
Appearance is very good. I can't remember seeing a beer more black than this. Opaque is an under statement. Mocha-colored head forms, eventually simmering down to a thin cap of foam. Lacing coats the inside of the glass. Impressive.
Smell is very good. Aromas of black licorice, roasted malts, alcohol and bitter dark chocolate. The fragrance of a worthy elixsure.
Taste is exceptional. Enormous flavor of roasted malts and bitter-sweet dark chocolate. Alcohol makes itself known toward the back-end but isn't overwhelming and adds to the flavor. An absolute pleasure to sip. Extremely well done.
Mouthfeel is very good. Texture is very nice and carbonation is on point.
Drinkability is very good. Amazingly easy to drink for a beer with this much flavor and alcohol.
Overall: One of my favorites. A staple in my fridge and cellar. This is what American brewing is all about.
