22 oz bomber poured into a tulip, because (me being me) it allows the wheat notes to blossom. Strange, but I believe it true. Pours a brilliant orange-amber with a white head that simmers down into a fine bead and ring of foam that hangs on forever. Aroma of alcohol, wheaty tartness, citrus and tropical fruit... very appetizing.
Starts with a weizenbock-like wheat malt and ester flavor, and then it kicks into gear in three separate directions that all work together - an underlying slightly grainy bitterness, a tropical fruit maltiness with whiffs of citrusy hop, and a solid spiciness (clove, a little cinnamon and pepper) and warming surge to take care of the tastebuds that have not yet been served. What I love about this brew is how halfway through these flavors all collide. Juicy, spicy, warm, bitter - it's all there, and in fine balance. Finishes with a lingering clove-and-mango spiciness and tingle on the tongue from the carbonation and warming surge. It's a VERY big beer, but also VERY well balanced. Tingly but silky mouthfeel.
A huge brew, but a very balanced, deep, enjoyable one as well. I need to have my buds in North Carolina clear the shelves of this for me. I want more!!!!
