12 oz bottle sent to me by the great OHLRangers. I normally would wait until I got a package off to him, but this one leaked a little in transit and I was worried about the condition of the beer. The pour went well and it makes me question whether or not it was this one that leaked. Served up in a standard pint glass.

A: Pours from the bottle a coppery/orange color. The body is nice and super hazy, darkening in the middle and allowing light to vibrantly come through around the edges. The body has a HUGE amount of carbonation moving around in it. It is just flowing with super fast moving carbonation. This qwelled my fears that this one was going to be super flat due to the leakage issue. Builds a head quick off the pour, so a careful pour was needed. Over two fingers of crisp, bubbly white foam built up and fell somewhat quickly to a tighter half finger that really hung around. The foam doesn't have much stick to it though,so no real lace build up.

S: Really nice aroma coming out here. Very nice apple character builds. Nice red apple, meat and skin coming out. There is a good amount of that smoke coming out, but it blends really well with the apple. Well I just accidently actually stuck my nose in the beer and after it was cleared out the smoke actually really comes through, almost campfire like at times. I am actually amazed at how clear that aroma is and I guess it was a happy accident to have the bonehead moment of inhaling beer through my nose. Not getting a whole lot else but I figure this is what this beer was shooting for, and it was successful at that.

T: Taste is a little disappointing. Basically, all I am getting is a dry cider flavor. It has that nice apple presence, good amount of sweetness of the meat and the skins do really add a little bit of bitter to balance that out. Most disappointing part is that there really is no smoke coming across in the flavor. This may be because of the use of applewood and it blends very well. I just really wanted to get that smoke in the flavor and I just can't find it. With the cider like quality, I am getting a little bit of a dry white wine flavor as well.

M: The mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium and it really lightens up because of the pretty high carbonation level. Lightly sweet and dry on the palate. Not getting much in the way of ABV at all. Aftertaste is all dry apple cider like flavor.

OA: I have mixed emotions about this beer. The smell really impressed me and got me all jacked up about the beer. But . . . the flavor just disappointed me due to the lack of smoke presence. Don't get me wrong, this beer doesn't suck, it tastes good and is nice and light and refreshing. I dig it, but I just put it on the level of a good cider, not a smoked apple ale. Its still easy to put down and enjoyable, great on this hot summer night after playing some volleyball.
