12 oz can sent to me by the always generous spointon. Served up in an imperial pint.

A: The beer pours from the can a dark brown and builds a seemingly black body. Held to the light, the edges and top show a brown cola-like appearance but the cent remain black and opaque. The pour produced a finger mocha colored head. Sadly the head doesn't hold, falling quickly to a thin ring that produces zero lacing. Still a fine lookin' porter.

S: Roasty, toasty grains hit the nose first and join with a chocolate covered malt ball aroma. Chocolate becomes more pronounced with both a milk and dark chocolate presence. Caramel and brown sugar notes round things off.

T: Caramel and toffee start this party off. Roasted grain brings out some coffee roastiness and bitterness. There is what I believe to be a grassy hop bitterness coming out of this as well. Things move toward the chocolate goodness with a balancing sweetness but also some contrasting dark chocolate bitterness. Very nice.

M: On the heavier end of medium in feel, with a silky texture and carbonation. Sweet and lightly bitter on the palate. ABV is light and almost not noticeable. Aftertaste is all chocolate notes.

OA: This really is a fantastic porter. Just a great representation of the style with plenty of big flavors while remaining incredibly easy drinking. Another reason to live in Chicago right here.
