It isn't actually a wine glass, but this St Bernardus glass really closely resembles a red wine glass...

Cork is dated 07/04/14

A - Pour produces a one inch toffee colored head. It's lightly fizzy, but seems like it will have good staying power. Body is medium brown and almost muddy looking. There is no way light is getting through this one.

S - Lots of malty sweetness. Caramel and toffee. Red fruits abound with cherries and dates. Fruit cake. Dark Belgian candi sugar.

T - The first thing that strikes me is the sweetness of ripe red fruits. Cherries, dates, and a bit of golden raisins. Then it's some sort of cross between fruit cake and rum cake. Light booziness comes in, but no alcohol burn comes with it. Toffee is here, but not as present as in the aroma. Flavor sort of switches to something it's been highlighting for a bit during the rest, yeast. Yeast brings on some nice spiciness that starts with the sweetness, but comes into it's own later on. Ever so slight bitterness washes over the tongue and is gone as quickly as it came.

M - Full bodied. Thick, yet not syrupy or sticky.

Overall - Good, not quite great brew. It's got a lot going on and I wonder how this one might age. It could really let the malts develop more. Well worth checking out and one of the better Mikkeller beers I have had.
