A: Super deep black, like ink. A closer look reveals some streams of bubbles hugging the side of the glass. Head is a quality inch tall, made up of tight caramel colored bubbles.

S: Smells extremely oily and rich. Lot of piney hops on the nose with milk chocolate, vanilla bean and café au lait.

T: Starts off like it smells; oily, malty with some piney hops blended in. Hops aren’t as strong as the nose would lead you to believe. The maltiness has good dimensionality to it with hints of honey, graham, bitter chocolate and a fruity flavor that I’m having a hard time putting my finger on. The coffee doesn’t really come through much. I can find aspects of it in the intense bitterness of this beer, but the only time the taste becomes apparent is in the after taste. After the swallow, alcohol goes shooting right into the nasal cavity with reckless abandon. Finishes hoppy, oily and simply bitter.

M: Full body and thick.

D: For all the great imp stouts on the market, this is not one of them. Its good mind you, but the market has become saturated and this one doesn’t stand out.
