A: Pours a slick pitch black with a full and creamy cocoa colored head. Can’t complain with this so far.

S: Roasted barley without the smokiness that sometimes accompanies it. Milk chocolate, fresh ground espresso and lactose also play a part. I can’t detect any hops at all.

T: Starts with a good amount of roastedness around the tip of the tongue. Coffee blends in well with the barley without actually “standing out”. Not as smooth as other breakfast stouts, perhaps not as much oatmeal is used. Not as much chocolate either, but it is present. Minor sourness hiding under the hood which adds some extra dimensionality. The more I drink it, the more the roastedness stands out. Little bit of oilyness, mostly found in the mouthfeel. Finishes with more oatmeal than it started with, alcohol coating the tongue and perhaps some notes of piney hops.

M: Full bodied and creamy

D: Not that the beer is bad, but these imp stouts from across the pond have been really pumped up. So far, I can’t say that any of them have lived up to the expectations. I’ll keep trying until I find one that blows me away 
