Beandip, thanks for this gem!
Outstanding pour. Vivaciously golden in color, two fingers of stark white frothy cap, crystal clear and visibly lively.
The bretty nature of this one hits the nose almost immediately upon opening - and I opened this outside! Hugely funky in the nose - musty cellar, sweet raw red meats, cheesy and funky horse leather. My gawd. Lending a very sweet balance is an almost equally huge fruity element - musk melon, pears, peaches, golden apples with just a hint of tangerine and lemon. Grassy notes round everything out. Complex.
Grassy with a slight citrus bitterness first roll over the tongue - tangerine, lemons and red grapefruit. Interesting. More with the aforementioned fruits towards the finish, in which the rye malt becomes very evident, lending it's twang. Light sourness at mid palate and throughout the finish.
Medium in body, light, slightly watery mouthfeel. Tingly and slightly hesitant carbonation. Acidic. I make it sound 'worse' than it is... it's actually quite good - works well when balanced by the rest of the senses.
Love this Saison. Bretty, funky, sweet, fruity, slightly spicey, incredibly refreshing.... I could go on and on. Mouthfeel and carbonation are the only issues I personally have with it - and neither are glaring at that. Damn fine Saison - one of the better complex-yet-balanced ones I have had in a while. I consider myself lucky to have tried this - you filthy bastages missed out at Bracfest as I snuck this in, then snuck it back out. Adam - I can't thank you enough!
