Pours a dark, dark brown color with hidden amber highlights. One finger of tan, finely bubbled head -- decent retention. Good, clinging lacing.

Aroma is strongly of roasted malts, followed by coffee, with hints of dark chocolate, and a bit of wood smoke.

On the tongue... the toasted malts come first, then my second thought was "hmm, hoppy". Not overly so, and it is actually quite nice. Tastes of black, dark coffee, toffee, and bitter chocolate. Smoky in aftertaste. Follows the nose very well.

Mouthfeel is medium, smooth, not quite creamy in feel. Dry, slightly chalky -- more so in aftertaste. Perhaps just a bit thin for an American stout.

This is by no means a complex stout, just a good straight forward representation of it's styling, and fairly balanced at that. An easy drinker, despite the slightly high ABV. I could have several of these, and I think I will...
