2004 bottle sent by Wingnut, finally got around to opening it for NYE 2007.

Dark reddish color. Smell was fantastic, with raspberry, dark chocolate, a hint of brandy maybe, and a very slight coffee smell. The taste was slightly different than the smell, to be honest. A lot less raspberry in the taste than I expected. But a whole lot of other things going on. This really tasted like an unsweetened dark chocolate raspeberry tart. It had a slight doughy/yeast taste maybe. Could taste the alcohol too, but interestingly it gave it something extra. Normally the taste of alcohol is a knock on the bottle for me. But in this case, it just gave it something extra. Like I said, maybe it was a slight Brandy taste. Not sure. TT used the term "cake" to describe this, and I completely agree. I also agree with his take on the feel of the drink --- "Goes down super smooth and creamy".

Overall, this seems like a great beer to hang out with and have over a little while. Can't slam it for sure, because you'd miss out on all the complexity. I split this with a friend last night, and he agreed that it was a great bottle and that we'd love to get more.

ETA:
Either Furley did have a bad bottle, or he's a big dope. The choice is yours to decide.
