22 oz bottle sent to me as FF winnings from Wetpaperbag. Thanks, Bags! Served up in a nonic.
A: Poured a deep, glossy black that is completely opaque. Holding it to the light drives home the fact that it is indeed opaque. The pour got me zero head, no foam, no bubbles. Because of that, no lace. So, it is a black beer. Not bad at all, but not necessarily great in the look department.
S: Very roasty. Lots of coffee roast kicking around in here. Light burned, but pleasant. Touch of chocolate and toffee. There is a nice earthy breadiness backing all of this up. Just spot on stout awesomeness.
T: Pretty much mirrors the nose. Roasty, coffee notes. Lightly bitter espresso but also sweet with notes of dark chocolate and toffee. Malt balls, mmmmm Whoppers. Roast kicks in again at the middle and the end bringing some char bite and some earthy grain notes.
M: Medium bodied with a lighter carbonation. Lightly sweet on the palate and has some stick to it. ABV is light, touch of heat on the throat. Aftertaste is all roasty espresso.
OA: For some reason I thought this was an Imperial Stout, but was quite pleasantly surprised after realizing and opening that the beer still has some big roasty flavors. Works incredibly well with tons of flavor without all the booziness. An incredibly solid stout . . . actually, a great stout.
