Bottle #541 of 900. 2006 Vintage.

A - It's black alright. Pitch black body, not quick as thick looking on the pour as expected, but still formidable. Head is light cocoa colored and about a half inch tall. Impressive for a barrel aged beer. Made up of mostly small bubbles. Decent retention. Nice webby lacing.

S - Lots of roasty dark malt on this one, bringing forth espresso and dark chocolate. Barrel aging is super present here. There's lots of boozy bourbon and a bit of vanilla in the nose. Vapors even burn the nose a bit.

T - Lots more than the barrel aging going on here. Right off the bat you are greeted by lots of big bold dark chocolate flavor. That lingers a bit while the soft espresso moves in. Alcohol becomes more pronounced as some bourbon washes over the tongue. Light anise. Vanilla is rich and finishes this beer off nicely. Warms the belly a bit when it hits.

M - Rich and thick. Smooth and almost velvety. Slides through my mouth and down my throat.

Overall - Really nice brew here. I think the year that it sat in the cellar might have mellowed out the bourbon just right, as I have heard others say the bourbon was too big in this one.
