A nice pour that was very viscous and think. Great midnight black color with brown hints around the edge when held to the light. A good head from the pour but did quickly dissipate and not much lacing to speak of either.

The nose is rich and big. Malt aroma and definite solvent alcohol notes are most prominent along with the bourbon aroma. Some touches of stout with roast and coffee. The cask also shows its influence with some vanilla and even woody aromas. There are some base notes that are feint and I could see how if this beer were to age would bring out a nice balance. Notes such as tropical fruits and some caramel and a light banana aroma as well.

The taste is rich with a lot of sweetness and complexity. Noticeable roasty notes and cask flavors. Woody and vanilla mostly but some bourbon and alcoholic heat as well. This is a beer that needs some aging to smooth out some of the harsher flavors. There are hints of chocolate and some astringency or bitterness but more from the grain then hops. Not much hops to really speak of but acceptable

The body is full with no surprise. There is a sticky feel and finishes with a sweetness. There are a lot of things going on here that the complexity is just a little much but with age I could see this shaping into a fantastic beer. A beer that takes a while for sure. I would love to taste this after a year though.
