Picked up a single recently from South Bay Drugs and Liquor.

Pours a golden apricot color with a good inch of cooked egg-white colored foam. Some lacing as the foam settles to a very thin layer.

Very nice citrus fruits on the nose. Immediately I pick up some grapefruit and lemon, then some orange, pineapple, peach and mango. Malt follows quickly behind the hops with a mostly toasted bread aroma with some notes of caramel and toffee. A lingering “green” bitterness in the background makes this one seem very fresh. There’s also some grassy aromas.

Then it all falls apart:
Tastes of aggressive, slightly toasted grains upfront. There’s a little alcohol in the finish and quite a lot of citrus bitterness in the back of the mouth but it’s not the kind I find pleasurable compared to other IPAs. Lots of pine. Lots of toast flavors but they seem a little too rough to me, tastes a little burnt--like burnt caramel.

Mouthfeel is too rough, bitter and astringent on the tongue. Aftertaste is mostly clean, just a few bitter citrus zest flavors hang around after each sip. A little hot in the back of the throat.

I tried but I did not enjoy this one.

Update (7/5): I felt this one needed to be re-reviewed since my tastebuds might have been off the first time.

Taste--Pine bitterness, citrus peel, acidic grapefruit, pineapple, and some grass in the finish. A little warm heat from the alcohol is noticeable in the back of the throat. The toasted and caramel malts come through in the middle, bringing a balance to the pine and citrus bitterness. Quite tasty actually, a little more on the pine side (and I prefer the citrus).

Mouthfeel is a little syrupy at first, low carbonation. Not as rough as I remembered it.
