I've been drinking a shit ton of this beer this summer, and every summer since it was released back in 2007. I think they have dialed it in, and its pretty balanced.
2012 review:
Lightly hazed pastel yellow, ample head of foam, bright peachy aroma that falls short of becoming sweet. Tart underripe peach flavor, clean lacto tartness like peach yogurt. Spritzy with a slight wheaty creaminess, finishes somewhat dry this time. Simple but effective. Super refreshing and drinkable at 4.5%, will probably go through a couple cases this summer.
2007 review:
Appearance starts out strong, with lively carbonation, but by the end of the glass it starts to lose steam a little. It pours a nice pale orange tone, with bubbles that cling to the sides of the wide fishbowl-style chalice. Pouring the yeast is recommended, it boosts the mouthfeel and tartness.
Light aroma of peach, lemon, and white grape juice. Vague sourdough bread in the background, but not as pronounced as Berliner Kindl Weisse.
Tart upfront, like lemonade without the sugar. Pale malt or wheat in the middle, clean not funky. Peach is soft and light, and comes out toward the end, lingering with a mild zesty tartness. After half the glass, it seems to ebb away.
Feels like peach schnapps and seltzer, without the sweetness or alcohol. The tingling carbonation centers itself on the tongue, and spreads outward. Spritzy, juicy, not especially dry.
After finishing the first, I had to have another. Perfect for the summer heat. Definitely gets points for creativity...
