Thanks to BOLTZ from RB. First of what’s with having two layers of wax? Like one layer is not bad enough, but this pasteurized beer needs TWO LAYERS! Once I was done removing the wax, the beer poured with a small head that quickly faded into a strong halo lacing. Color is dark orange-ish copper, but completely clear. Some carbonation bubbles visible through the beer. Aroma is strong, it comes off as a super high octane Flanders Red made by an American brewer (as advertised, not exactly the best thing, imo). It is not like a BFM strong Sour Red but it’s got some similar characteristics. There is cherry, lightly syrupy sourness, but it also has a lot of alcohol and some leafiness coming off the oak. Taste follows with a little bit more alcohol coming through especially at the end of the flavor. It feels like I took a shot of liquor and I have a bit of an ethanol mistiness on the palate. It’s a little prickly and pear-like as well, some light acidity in there. It’s strong, definitely strong and some of that gets in the way of the Flanders aspects. Oak and alcohol on the back end, different, American, doable but I won’t be able to do the same with many other beers like it. Splitting the bottle with another person it was hard to keep drinking by the end with all the leafy oak and the alcohol.
