If only I could drink St. Bernardus Prior 8 all weekend, I would call it Weekend at Bernies.

Bernie may be dead, but he’s still the life of the party! Just ask Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman. Pours clean and smooth leaving a obnoxious lace and also laces to the glass. I also noted that there was some sediment on the bottoms like the monk of old (you know, back in the 80's). The dark rich amber/brown color which only the dead could see through is nice too.

Wouldn’t the number to St Bernies Prior 8 be 7? Maybe their padres aren’t so good with numbers. What they are good at is making beer. The smell for St. Bernies Prior 8 (7+1) hints of malt sweetness and a presence of alcohol. I picked up some sweet flavor of honey (maybe) but very little hops.

Although I couldn’t tell you what other movies McCarthy & Silverman have been in, what I can tell you is St. Bernies Prior 8 has a strong alcohol bit to it. Reading the description of a Belgian Dubbel, this is common. Also so is the strong presence of malt. What is interesting is there is a variety of malt flavors that blends well and is very enjoyable.

Luckily they only made two Weekend at Bernies, but St Bernardus Prior 8 hits the spot for something new: Belgian Dubbel. The 8% ABV and strong phenol/alcohol flavor really limits what can be consumed. Other than that, enjoy a great weekend even if your boss just happens to die.
