Picked up a bottle of this to formally review. I’ve had it many times though so it’s nice to really think it over. Drank from my Widmer mine Hefe glass.

Appearance- Pours a straw colored yellow with a hugely beautiful white head that literally has stiff meringue like peaks. An amazing cap and collar stays the ENTIRE beer along with TONS of thick rich lacing. One of the best looking beers I’ve ever seen.
Smell- As you’d expect and just as I remember the light plantain sweetness is softer than most Hefs and the spiciness isn’t as bold. There is a light lemony cleanness to the beer with a touch of orange peel and maybe even coriander. It’s all there, just in more moderation. Maybe I’m just too used to the American versions.
Taste- Much like the nose it’s just ridiculously balanced and nothing is overdone. The spicy bite of the yeast is very neutral as the banana is sort of an afterthought - not the main flavor like most. Other than just a teeny tiny kiss of clove and maybe some white pepper, there isn’t any other spice. The wheat is more of a player than one might expect as it’s doughy and full. The finish is malty and damn near floury (not a bad thing, just the flavor I get) as the wheat is really prevalent.
Mouthfeel- Thick and rich with a crazy creamy feel. The carbonation isn’t all that zippy even with the large head but the feel is great.
Drinkability- Definitely a super good beer that I enjoy every time. The look and mouthfeel are absolutely spot on perfect and the taste is about as balanced as you’ll find in a Hef. There are a few other Hefs I prefer (see Paulaner) but even those are usually more carbonated than I like. Tasty beer that we’re lucky to have everyday access to here in Minnesota.
