Dark amber color. Can’t see through it but it glows. Looks like the amber from Jurassic Park. Small head in my pour but strong. Turns to halo lacing. The first thing is that this isn’t a Belgian Pale Ale in my book. First, it’s darker and stronger than my conceptualization of that title. More importantly, it comes off as more of a Biere de Garde. Particularly, a fruitcake-like maltiness, which is very present on the nose. The Brett melds beautifully with the maltiness. Lots of bitter herbal flowers from the Brett. I think the two ends of this spectrum (thicker malts and airy herbal) balance each other well. Mouthfeel is a bit spritzy, surprisingly, with a touch of slickness that finishes fast leaving my palate wanting more. Flavor is similarly a balance of the malts and Brett. But the sugars are well-attenuated leaving behind trace fruitcake. More of the Bretty flower petals. Definitely one I’m enjoying slowly and really could drink a big bottle as well. A friend from Idaho gave me this and I’m super happy.
