I wasn’t expecting much after all the hype on this beer and what I felt was the disappointing Avery DuganA. Poured very viscous and oily from a 22oz. bottle light coppery reddish blonde with a small half inch head (likely the way I pour as I don’t like a big head). Initial “bouquet” is of hops and what smells like rye and grapefruit – it also has that almost cut grass, sour, odory but nice smell – can’t quite pin it down but it’s in some of the better IPA’s – it also has almost a bretty – sour beer smell. The initial taste is a knockout punch of hops, slight malt backbone, and a fruit taste I can’t narrow down - it’s almost like bananas and grapefruit (the hops, I’m assuming). Mid way the taste is very sweet and creamy – the malt showing through. The finish is bitter and it is not tempered at all by the alcohol – funny that the alcohol doesn’t hit you up front but really bites with the bitter on the finish. I’ve seen this compared to Three Floyd’s Dreadnaught IPA but is a much better beer - then again, I think Dreadnaught is an horrible beer; also have seen the comparison to Pliny the Elder and it’s not as good – but to be realistic – this is not in the same category – the Dreadnaught, the Maharaja, the Founder’s Double Trouble, and Boulder’s Mojo Double are all in this category and this is the best of all of them, It is a nice beer. If it weren’t so expensive, would drink it much more but at about $9.49 a pop? I don't think so... Also, would almost categorize it as a “triple” IPA...

Price: $9.49 Served In: Pint Glass
