Batch 9, February 2009

Pours out a deep amber color, with a one-finger head of very tight white bubbles that dissipate down to a fine ring.

OMG, the smell! This is simply exceptional. Huge citrus and grapfruit are filling the entire room, and when I stick my nose into the glass it becomes nearly overpowering and mouth watering. You just know this one is going to pucker the mouth and destroy your tastebuds, but in a good way.

At the first sip, I'm surprised by the balance of it. The huge hops are there, but are backed up by a malt backbone that is up to the task. Further drinks bring out more and more of the hops as if it is a cumulative affect. Upfront citrus, followed by good sugary sweetness, finished with an all-over hop bite that makes the mouth continue to water for several minutes.

Thick mouthfeel due to all the malts and sugars, and this works nicely. If this beer were any thinner, it wouldn't be right.

I now understand the love this beer has gotten, but it is definitely not for everyone. Hop heads will love it, and that's good enough for me.
