Ellie was the dog of Adam Avery when he started the brewery. The pour is a rich darker brown with great clarity and a soft off white head. Good retention and lacing to boot.

The nose is mellow with some rich malty aromas. Some chocolate and English malt aromas. Some grainy and more US hop notes. Some brown sugar and toffee aromas as well. A touch of lactic that is more of an off flavor then a milky.

The taste is similar with a malty base. Starts with more of a chocolate and sweet caramel/toffee flavors. There is some nutty flavors as well that gives it more of an English style but the body and hops confer more of an American feel. There is a touch of bittering hops and a finish of a more earthy hop taste.

The body is between mid and full. A nice but light carbonation enhances the earth and body of the beer. Smooth and easy to drink. Overall a good brown.
