2008 bottle sent to me by the one, the only, the Swabs. Glad to have a shot at this one since it has been on my wants for a long time. Served up in a snifter.

A: Pours up a very dark brown body with a nice garnet colored hue. Held to the light, it really glows a beautiful garnet for sho. It is dark, but from what I can tell, it looks pretty clear. The pour got me about a finger of light brown sugar colored head. Retention is limited, and falls pretty quickly. Lace is spotty at best. Nice wispy top cap keeps things interesting throughout the experience.

S: Nice caramel malty presence dominates. Brown sugar and toffee. It has sweet notes but it is no way over the top. It is right where it needs to be. Some fruits kick in with some hoppiness. Light pine presence along with some citrus like hops notes. There is also some blatant fig coming out here. Really nice.

T: Not much unlike the nose. Getting a nice dose of malts. Caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. Fruits are nice and pronounced as well. Orange, date and fig are the most pronounced. Cherry starts coming out a bit as it warms up along with some light tropical notes. Pine and a little bit of wood comes out as well. everything comes together nicely and tasty.

M: Full bodied with a lighter carbonation. This beer is big and has some really good stick to it. It is sweet but it doesn't come across cloying or overpowering on the palate. ABV is just enough. Warms throughout and sits with the heat in the tummy. Very nice. Aftertaste is some caramel and citrus hops.

OA: This beer really comes together awesomely. The flavors combine wonderfully. The nose is cohesive. Feel is spot on. It is just so damned easy drinking for a barleywine with this level of ABV and amount of flavors. Just damned good. I could absolutely drink multiple bottles of it. Damned good. Can I say damned good again? Damned good.
