Pours a stunning gold with a reddish tinge. Fine white head dissipates quickly. Aroma is pear, cactus, slight smoky fermented honey, and background alcohol.
Very round - this is a braggot with a serious amount of malt to battle it out with the honey. Starts with a spicy, almost peppery undertone with smooth, sweet malt and honey, pear and hints of apricot, on top. Faint smokiness. Alcohol comes on towards the finish but never burns. Vaguely somehow reminds me of a good reposado tequila. Round mouthfeel, fine but faint carbonation.
Very enjoyable kickoff to the US world cup, even if the US is down 0-1. Thanks to Bob for the bottle.
