Poured an orangey copper color with a good 1 1/2 finger head that has good retention.

Smells slightly spicy, floral hops, and citrus.

Taste is citrus, dry hops, and just enough malt to keep the hops from overwhelming.

I found this to be similar to 3Floyds Alpha King, which is a good thing, since I really enjoy that beer

Pours from a 12oz. bottle with a medium think, foamy beige head and a very dark coppery red color that looks more like a red ale than a hoppy IPA type beer – but Victory does call it an “ale.” Initial aroma is tinny and malty. However, the initial taste is some sweet maltness with a lot of hoppy bitter, but not a lot of hop taste follow through. There is not a lot of malt on the mid palate or finish – what you get is some crispness and a lot of bitter w/some sweetness (whether this is hop or malt is debatable – I would say it’s actually some hop flower sweetness). There is no pine, resin, grapefruit or other flavor associated with a real hop bomb. Having said that, this is a respectable beer and, I believe, much better than the Hop Wallop – the hops show through more and it is more balanced. Oddly, the Hop Devil is less alcohol (at about 6.7%?) than the Hop Wallop (at about 8.5%?), but tastes more of alcohol.

12oz Bottle

Hopdevil poured a beautiful clear amber. A 1+finger creamy off-white eggshell head formed and stuck around awhile. Moderate lacing sticks throughout the drink.

Smell is of sweet malts. Along with citrusy hops. Sweetened grapefruit and a touch of pine. The front has a nice caramel nose followed by the citrus. Very nice.

This beer is very well balanced. The taste starts off with a quick bite followed by grapefruit and ends with a good grapefruit pulp bitterness. This is all held in check by a good malt backbone that balences everything nicely. A touch of pine in the taste too. As it warms there's a slight alcohol presence in the nose and throat.

Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium bodied. Light bodied on the finish. A little on the watery side. Feels more medium bodied when first taken in. Light on the carbonation.

Drnkability is pretty high. With the lighter body and the nice balance between the hops and malt I could very easily enjoy a few of these at a time.

Overall this is a very well made beer from Victory. I was a little surprised though as I was looking for a more one sided hoppy ipa. Pick it up if you see it.

Nice hazy orange with dark golden tones, thin foamy head that really lasts for awhile fades to a thin haze and thick ring. Fresh dried floral hops and fruity aroma with an awesome grainy, toasted bakery-like back. This had a really complex aroma with lots of floral hop, some citrus, spice, & grassy grain, super fresh, yum. Tastes like it smells, fresh dried floral hops, with some citrus & spice notes and sneaky bitter, grassy notes as well. But not enough to ruin the solid hop crispy drying finish. Feel has a somewhat creamy medium body and airy dry. This is a solid IPA with great balanced hop bite and toasty malt backbone that tasted very fresh and is very drinkable.

A beautiful amber color. A moderate pour results in a nice, one finger almond colored head, with good retention. Light lacing.

Floral, citrus hop scent comes through nicely, followed quickly by sweet, toasty malt... nice.

Tastes of grapefruit, orange zest. Hops really come through, as they should. Nice toasted malt balance. Refreshing bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is full-ish, creamy, with a dry, alcoholic feel for an aftertaste. Lightly carbonated.

This is a damn good IPA... Recommended!

Poured from bottle into standard pint glass.

A - Pours a dark orange/amber. Starts with a huge off white head. Head disipates slowly.

S - Huge hop aroma. Citrusy and spicy hops. Mild malt backbone.

T - Ahhh, hops. Sometimes I forget how much I love this beer. Spicy hops up front, then goes into a citrusy character that finishes with a fruity taste.

M - Medium body. Carbonation is spot on.

D - This is my kind of session beer. Hoppy, but not overpowering, with a decent balance.
