Thanks to Wasatch for the opportunity to try this brew.

Pours a clear, brown with ruby edges and a good inch of foam.

Clean lager yeast allows for some toast malts to shine through initially. A bit of a seltzer water aroma. Once the beer is in the glass it opens up some nutty malts, soft chocolate overtones, and a slightly grainy aroma. Earthy with some spicy hops hide in the background. A little mint upfront as well. Caramel and toast try to peak thorough every now and again. A very tame version of the dopplebock variety, you really have to put your nose in there and search for some of the traditional characteristics.

Toasted malts with some caramel, toffee, and soft chocolate notes. Apparent alcohol in the finish warms the back of the throat. Malt flavors almost come off as roasted, with a toasted bitterness. Dry grainy flavor in the middle. A little too harsh in the finish. Not enough maltiness, sweetness, or flavor in this beer. Finishes semi-dry so any sweetness or malt flavor is washed away. Astringent grain flavors.

Medium-low carbonation but, at least at first, it doesn’t feel smooth on the palate.
