Balt Altbier by Union Craft Brewing
5.60 % ABV

This German-style Altbier is our nod to an old world, old school ale. The word “Alt” is German for "old", and refers to the traditional style of brewing before lager yeast was discovered. Balt is a dark, copper colored brew with a creamy head, a gentle bitterness and a clean, dry finish. Prost, Hon!

Forgive the review, it's been a while.

Pour creates a half inch head of khaki foam. Pretty good staying power, it's down to about a quarter inch a minute or so later. Body is a dark copper color and clean. Bubbles lazily drift towards the surface.

Aroma brings some sweet, nutty maltiness. A touch of toffee sweetness and a bit bready.

Flavor follows the aroma well. Nutty with a nice malt sweetness. Not overly sweet, mind you. Touch of bitterness hits towards the middle, before the malt takes over again, sort of riding down your tongue with some more maltiness. Finishes a touch bready.

Medium bodied and easy drinking. I could crush a bunch of these year round and it's a beer that I'd love to drink around a campfire. Well done American take on a German style.
