A - Wow, nice looking brew here. Body is a muddy brown, with a definite haze to it. Nice mini-cascade happening as I pour this one. Head is oatmeal colored, about two fingers tall and frothy. Good retention and sticky lacing.
S - Thick ripe strawberries up front here. Nice bready malts. Citrusy hops with perhaps the presence of orange rind? Light caramel in the background.
T - Wow, this is German? Starts right off with big backstrap molasses. Light caramel comes in for a second. Toffee is along for the ride. Then come the hops. Hops like I have never tasted in a German brew. Big bold bittering hops, with some pine needles mixed in. The bitterness doesn't subside quickly, rather holding on to your tongue for what seems like minutes. Towards the end, brown sugar mixes in with the still bitter hops. Lingering bitterness minutes later.
M - Full bodied. Carbonation is smooth and pretty creamy.
Overall - Skye had talked about this one with me before, but it still surprised me. Too bitter to be German almost, yet with more than just bitterness. Beautifully crafted and surprisingly drinkable for 8.5%. Highly recommended.
