This was the first beer I went for at Stone Sour Fest 09...not the one I wanted to try the most, because I've had the opportunity to try it once before, but because I knew a lot of people wanted to try this and I wanted to get it out of the way first and have the chance to review it.

Pours a dark cherry color, brown, looks reminiscent to Red Poppy. A nice half inch of foam forms on the top.

The aroma is of brown sugar, sweet and tart cherries, lemon acidity, toasted malts, raspberry jam, and toasted bread.

The taste is sweeter than anticipated. More mead dominance now, at least since the last time I tried it a few months ago. Dark fruits mid-palate, raisins, dates, black cherries, with a sugary and slightly tart finish. More raspberry flavor later on.

Moderate carbonation with a clean finish, a bit effervescent. A little too sweet now but still quite drinkable.

Had a chance to try this last year and the beer was a little more tart back then, clearly the mead is taking over...my review takes into account my memory of this beer from last year. Still, I think this one is drinkable as it is now.
