The pour is very dark ruby, clear. A thick light tan head foams but fades into the brew and is almost nonexistent. Fizzy bubbles pop up upon a swirl. Sweet nose, the raisins are definitely there, as other sweet fruits. The alcohol is only there slightly. Just as the smell, the taste is sweet and very inviting. :chug: Nice malt flavor rolls around as it finishes extremely smooth with light carbonation left on your tongue. Solid brew..

A - Pours a murky reddish brown colored body. Khaki head starts at a full finger and is whisps on the surface within a minute.

S - Big sweet fruity dark fruits. I mean big. Huge cherry aromas with some plums and figs. Dark candy sugar. Some caramel hidden in there.

T - Yummy. All sorts of belgian spice and dark fruitiness. Lets see, cherries, plums, bubblegum, toffee and a touch of caramel. Big bubblegum covered in dark candy sugar.

M - Medium bodied and with light and smooth carbonation.

D - I really like this beer. Interested to see what all this sweetness will mean after some aging.

Had this when it first came out and was impressed. This one's for the review.
FWIW, the newer label has this beer listed at 8% alc.

Served chilled and poured into a 25cl Brasserie de l' Abbeye des Rocs chalice.

Appearance is good. Brick red/brown colored beer with a decent but not fantastic head. Beautiful and inviting color

Smell is very good. Complex nose. Nutty yeast aroma with dark fruity malts. Very pleasing.

Taste is very good. Dark malts, nuts and a slight bubble gum flavor at the back end. Some earthiness. Not as complex as the nose and quite mild for the style but finishes quite well without any cloying-ness.

Mouthfeel is good. Carbonation is above average and a little prickly but fits well with the style.

Drinkability is very good. An easy to drink dubbel that is a joy to put down.

Overall: One of the better American made dubbels. Recommended.
