*I was told by Patrick that this beer is made from the second runnings of their Imperial Stout.*
Wow, I just had to review this beer. Just came back from La Bella Pizza with my buddy Tim and we had two small glasses of this on tap, I would have had more of it if I could.
The head seemed to last an eternity. The color was a very dark brown with some ruby edges on the sides. Excellent retention on this one, had some legs too.
The aroma was very interesting…if you gave me this beer in a blind tasting I would have guessed a black IPA. Yep, reminded me of Pizza Port Black Lie or Stone 11th both in aroma and taste. The beer had a earthy bitterness, herbal too (Chinook seems like a good guess). Also some chocolate and roasted malts. It was seems like an odd combination, a hoppy brown ale, but it works so well.
Started off eathy and herbal with a bit of bitterness but the chocolate and brown sugar takes the second wave. Some hints of caramel too. Lightly roasted, a bit nutty, but again the hoppyness brings this to another dimension…every sip seemed to bring something new.
Well carbonated, and extremely easy to drink. I’m going to have to go back and drink this one till it’s gone.
