Old Review
22 oz bomber I picked up from Hop City in Atlanta. Served up in a snifter.
A: Nice deep black on the pour. Body is solid, not getting any devation from the black when held to the light. A good shade of yellowish brown slick coats the glass and slides back down into the body slowly. Off the pour, I got half a finger of medium brown head. Sadly, the head doesn't last too long. That means no lace either. Still, it remains what I was expecting.
S: Wow. All I can say is coffee. The espresso is wicked and big time. Probably the biggest coffee aroma I have ever gotten out of a beer. Actually smells like a chilled shot of espresso. A little bit of the malt comes through with some lactose presence, but its all coffee. It actually has a finishing aroma of just freshly ground coffee.
T: Yet again, we have some big ass coffee flavor. Its all espresso and coffee beans in here yo. Behind that, I do get a good amount of that lactose presence expected from a milk stout and a good amount of dark chocolate. This absolutely is dominated by coffee. It is very tasty but I could do with a bit more complexity or added flavors. Still the spot on coffee flavor is impressive.
M: Whoa, not expected. This is medium in body, and even the lighter side of medium at that. Its much thinner than I expected and what the flavor wants you to believe. Carbonation is mild, it seems that this is just a thin brew but somehow it works. ABV is light though, with just slight warmth. Aftertaste is all coffee.
D: Very drinkable, its basically just a chilled espresso with cream and a shot of chocolate, light on the sugar. It could be a hell of a lot more complex for sure, but somehow it just works. Its probably the flavor combination with the wieght of the beer. All I can liken it to is like a bigger Surly Coffee Bender. A very enjoyable beer, but a shock for the feel and flavor combo. Its crazy, but good.
