Bourbon Barrel Wee Mac by Sun King Brewing Company
Scottish Ale
5.30 % ABV

We lovingly placed our Wee Mac Scottish-style Ale in Bourbon barrels and let it slumber in our cellar for a year. By aging the beer in this manner, it accentuates the toffee and hazelnut notes and infuses it with the delicious flavors of Bourbon.

16 oz can sent to me by the great Howard. Served up in a tulip.

A: Pours a medium to darker brown body. Held to the light, it brightens up a bit to maintain a steady medium brown that you can pretty much see through. The pour got me about a finger of off white head. It fall slowsly to a maintaining half finger that puts up some potty lacing.

S: It is safe to say this is a toffee bomb. This thing is just billowing with a huge amount of toffee. A touch of bourbon and chocolate come forth and it finished with a pretty distinct hazelnut coffee note. Very nice.

T: Its a little lighter in flavor than in aroma. The Scotch ale maltiness really comes out. A little peaty with some molasses and light dark fruit notes. Caramel moving around in there. Nutty. Very nutty. Hazelnuts (without the coffee) and pecans. Then that shifts into the toffee and some butterscotch. The bourbon is not here. Can't find it. It might have melded with the malts to develop that huge toffee flavor, but nothing distinguishable bourbon.

M: Definitely on the light side of medium in bodied with a medium carbonation to it. The body combined with the flavors makes it feel almost watery at times. ABV is light, but I see that is expected because this is sitting right about 5%. Spot on then. Aftertaste is all toffee.

OA: Tasty stuff. It is a bit one (well, maybe two) note because the toffee and nut notes are so big. The feel also throws thigns a bit. Overall, its a pretty good dessert-like beer that will not be an issue to destroy. Glad I had the chance to try and thanks again, Howard.
