Color is a lighter shade of pale yellow, some hazy cloudyness with a finger high white head of looser thickness, fades and bubbles down to some bubbles along the rim. Lace in webby loose sheets. Smell is quite floral and sweetly hopped lending light pine, light grapefruit and a touch spicy. Not all that strong but very fresh and hoppy. Swirling brings out some soft caramel malts and alcoholic warmth. Taste is a calming smooth, subtle hoppy little treat. Solid floral and dried sense of hops with a good touch of pine and grapefruit mixing with peach notes. Nice light backing of soft caramel malts; a bit of toasted bread. Well balanced and the bitterness is well under check with nice lingering spicy dried grapefruit notions in the finish. Lightly creamy and a fair medium body feel with a crisp, clean subtle hoppy finish. Maybe expecting to much from this beer with all the high recommendations. Its a solid IPA for sure, but didn't quite make the impact on me with more of a mellower hop flavor then I was anticipating. Comparisons aside, this was very close to Town Hall's Columbus Pale. So as an IPA this was more like a great pale.

Bomber picked up at Dyess AFB, Texas.

I've been looking forward to trying this for a while. Pours a nice golden colore with a one finger head that quickly fades to a thim layer, and pretty good lacing.

Has a great floral, hoppy, pine and citrus smell, that really makes me look forward to drinking it. I love the smell of a good IPA.

Taste is of grapefruit, hops, pine and malt. I was expecting a bigger hop bite to this beer, but this is a well balanced beer with great drinkability. I finished my first glass before I realized it.

I hope that I can find some more Stone Brewing beers.

22oz. Bomber

I cracked open the bottle and immediately got hit with a whiff of hops. I have a feeling I'll like this one.

Stone's IPA poured a chill hazed tarnished golden with very lively carbonation rising from all over the bottom of my pint glass. Sitting up top is a nice 1+ finger creamy white eggshell head.

Smell is of hops. All hops. Big piney, oily hops. There is a citrus freshness that pokes its head out in the middle. There is a little earthiness at the end. As this beer warms, the malt that holds it all together comes through as a nice backbone aroma.

Taste is what I think an IPA should taste like. The malt in the smell is a nice sturdy backbone. The hops take center stage though. Hop oils abound followed by pine needles. There is that citrus again on the middle of my tongue. This all leads into a moderate bitterness that leaves me wanting more.

Mouthfeel is close to perfect. Medium bodied. Slick, oily mouthfeel. Goes down awfully smooth.

It would be very easy to drink these all night long. The bitterness leaves you wanting another drink right after the last. The abv is hidden very well. Dangerously drinkable.

This is what I think an IPA should be. Big on hops with a decent abv. This is in my top 3 favorite IPAs. Very good representation of the style. A must try.

Old Review

Got this at Midtown in Nashville. 22oz bomber poured into a shaped pint.

A: This beer poured a glowing, hazy orange with a nice, big head. The head created some sticky lacing throughout the glass. Looks so good you want it.

S: Big time hops. Lots of floral and citrus going on there. You also pick up on some clove and spice.

T: This one blew me away. It had a definite hops bitterness that came from the flavors of floral and citrus. The grapefruit and orange flavors cool it off with the malt. Still have a bitterness in the finish that really challenges the taste buds.

M: A nice medium carbonation that keep this somewhat light on the tongue and refreshing. The finish was a bit strange. It left your mouth dry and parched at times.

D: This was a great beer. I wouldn't drink more than a bomber in a sitting but I would keep a few bombers in the cellar. I am really looking forward to Ruination now.

*Uploading my old reviews, this one has a review date of: 9-5-07. If I can acquire the beer again I will re-review it*

On tap at the Louie's Suds n' Sun at San Diego State University. The best thing on tap and it's something I haven't reviewed, plus it's another hot day and this one seemed like the right beer.

Poured into a clear plastic cup, hey at least it's a clear one. Golden color with lots of foam, a thin layer of foam persisted throughout its entirety. Great lacing too.

The aroma is a bit of a let down. I was expecting this one to be more intense but it's not. Maybe it is the plastic cup but I'm not picking up much here. I had to wait until I drank about 1/3 of the beer and let it get a little warmer to get some aroma. I wasn't getting much but it was a bit better with some citrus, pine and sweetness from the malt.

The taste has a nice bitterness with some fruit flavors in the finish. Some pine flavors begin to develop as I continue to drink it.

Mouthfeel and carbonation are both very good and the drinkability is pretty high as well.

I will have to review this one from a bottle since, for some reason, I wasn't getting too much aroma and I'm sure a bottled version, or a proper glass, would improve its score.

On tap. Pours with hues of golden straw, and fiery orange. Topped with a resiny frothy with head. Strong pungent hop aroma. Mostly pine, and then some more pine, and maybe some pine. I think I get some peachy notes too. Very clean bitterness. Crisp. First class all the way.

Poured from 12oz bottle to pint glass.

A - Slightly darker than golden. Fine bubbles running furiously up the glass. one finger head that stays.

S - Slight smell of cascade(?) hops and definitely a light malt.

T - Perfect balance of piney, biting hops with a slight malt backbone.

M - Carbonation bites at your tongue a little. Almost oily at the back of my mouth.

D - Well, I could drink this all day long, except they don't distribute in MN.

Another superb Stone offering. Thanks Fro!

Very nice gold, orange color. Citrus, hops, great smell that reminds me of much stronger Double IPAs. Balanced hop, citrus taste. Slight bitterness that does not linger. Smooth tate that hides the ABV very well. This one has a breat balance of hops and overall taste to it. Very good drinkable beer for the ABV.

Obviously I had heard the word about this beer and was looking forward to trying it. Since I can't get it in IL, it was via trade. This one lived up to its advance billing. No question, I would love to see this beer much more often. I can see why so many people love this beer.
