Brand new brewery in my backyard and ohhh boy! I’ve had samples of 3 of their 4 initial offerings and they are all solid. Size 7 is beyond solid. It’s a REALLY good IPA. Really good. Look out Masala, you have new competition in town!
Appearance- Pours a hazy orange yellowish with a decent half finger bright white head that although looks soft and fuzzy, it fizzles away quickly. Nary a cap or collar is left and obviously no lacing.
Smell- Maybe it’s just the shear freshness but this bad boy smells delightful. Chalked full of fresh citrusy fruitiness. Tons of pineapple, mango, peach and grapefruit. Crazy smelling as it’s so fresh there’s an insane fruity intensity you rarely get (unless the brewery is basically next door). This is west coast through and through as I don’t get any maltiness what-so-ever.
Taste- Much like the nose. Starts with a light fruitiness bitterness that is clean and very pleasant. It’s extremely fruity and pretty damned tropical as the beer is loaded with mango and pineapple goodness. Maybe a touch of pine and something almost apple like mixes in but for the most part it’s very tropical. A TOUCH of caramel malt mixes in but it’s how I like it; almost nonexistent. A teeny weenie amount of alcohol sneaks in towards the finish but it’s very light.
Mouthfeel- Slightly warming but fairly nice body with a medium feel and medium carbonation.
Drinkability- I really love this beer a lot. It’s our own super West Coastish IPA right here in Minneapolis. Super fresh and fruity with off the charts drinkability. I’ve enjoyed the shit out of every sip. Can’t wait to see what else these guys do.
