Bourbon Barrel Cryptical by Starr Hill Brewery
American Double / Imperial Stout
7.50 % ABV

An Imperial Stout style beer that packs a wallop of dark malt flavor. The beer weights in at 7.5% and has flavors of liquorices and anice spice. Cryptical is dry hopped with American hops to balance out the full body with a floral aroma.

Thick black lovely looking Impy Stout with a thick creamy chocolate milk-esque head that faded fairly quickly leaving the sides of the glass smothered with lacing. Truly amazing looking beer.

Smells of chocolatey malts, licorice, hints of caramel and just a touch of booze. A little plugged up so it's tough to pick much more out.

The taste matches up exactly with the nose. Chocolate, licorice, and a nice bourbon kick at the end. The bourbon stands out more and more as this warms up.

Mouthfeel is a little thinner than I expected, but is insanely smooth and creamy. Very close to being perfect.

I haven't been impressed by many Starr Hill beers, but I'm glad I happened to stop at the brewery and see this. A very nice beer.

Price: $20.00 Served In: Tulip
