1 Litre flip top bottle. Bottled Spring 2007.
A - Pours a dark brown body that looks viscous and is completely opaque. Head is dark beige and a bit fizzy. It quickly reduces to a floating island in the middle and a thin ring around the glass.
S - Barrel aging sure isn't hiding here. Huge oaky bourbon nose comes right at you, stinging the nostrils just a bit if you breath in deep. Deep vanilla derived from the barrel is here as well. Nice notes of anise. Molasses sweetness.
T - Starts off with the barrel aging notes, but they're much more subdued. Big vanilla and bourbon. Anise comes in huge and stays for a long time. Molasses sweetness sort of plays along with the anise. There seems to be some sort of off flavor here. It's a bit sour, and it doesn't seem as though it's supposed to be here. Finish has a light roastiness.
M - Medium bodied and entirely too thin for the style. Carbonation is low, but somehow still biting on the tongue.
Overall - This beer really isn't doing it for me. Could be a bad bottle as something seems off. The sweetness is already becoming cloying and I am only through glass number one. Couldn't do it. :furley:
