12oz Stubby

Got this as an extra from the tremendous trader known as BitterBill, thanks Bill. Zonker Stout pours midnight black and the only highlights appear when it's directly backlit. The tan head rose to two fingers as I poured. As the head eventually settled to a thick crown it left sticky drink lines on its way down. Good looking stout.

The smell on this beer is definately inviting. Roastiness starts things off and are quickly accompanied by bittersweet chocolate, cream, and cocoa. The roastiness takes the biggest piece of the aroma. Although chocolate makes a strong showing toward the backend. The aroma just pulls you in.

The flavor runs the same gamut as the aroma. The roastiness is present and takes center stage but the lactic creaminess and cocoa show themselves with authority. Pure unadulterated bittersweet chocolate rounds things off on the swallow leaving the sweet followed by the bitterness. A really nice stout.

Medium bodied with a small but perfect amount of chewiness. A roasty bitterness on the finish. This beer glides through the mouth at its own pace letting the myriad of flavors come through.

This is a very easy stout to put away. If i could buy this locally it would be a mainstay in the fridge but unfortunately this is my only bottle and it's just about gone.

Zonker Stout is one of the better American stouts I've had in awhile. I'd like to try more offerings from Snake River. If they're half as good as Zonker they'd be quality.

A - Love the look of this one. Pours pitch black, inky fluid into the glass. Looks more like a RIS than an Amberican Stout. Starts with a one inch, dark cocoa colored head that is now wisps on the surface and a ring around the glass.

S - Big chocolatey notes coming out of this one. Dark chocolate along with a touch of cocoa. Lightly roasted dark malt. Yum.

T - Starts soft and creamy with no flavor rushing out at you. After a couple seconds, the chocolate comes slowly marching in. Dark chocolate mixed with milk chocolate runs over the tongue. Slightly roasty flavors with a bit of coffee bitterness to it. Finishes is that same bitterness.

M - Medium bodied and very smooth.

D - Great regular stout here. Full flavored, smooth and easy to drink. Too bad it's not available in MN.
