Super generously received this brew from jmu500 for no reason at all. Just share with friends he said. Amazing. Drank from my Surlyfest mug while grilling with a buddy.

Appearance- pours a lightly murky copper orange with a small half finger dirty white head. Not a ton if stating power but a small cap and collar do manage to stick around.
Smell- Has a very sweet and boozy nose upfront. Lots of fairly rich caramel that is very barleywine-ish. Sort of buttery smelling as well with a touch of vanilla. The hops are a bit more pronounced though with a fairly aggressive citric tone. Honestly don't get a lot of rye in the nose.
Taste- oh wowsa's! Very much more balanced and smooth than what I was expecting. A big rush of toffee and butterscotch upfront followed by a super mellow woody touch. The bourbon is noticeable but it's integrated so well with the beer. I get some vanilla along with a tiny bit of underlying rye. It's spicy I suppose but like everything else its very much integrated. The hops I got in the nose (and booze as well) is very subtle and extremely balanced. The finish has the lightest touch of sweetness along with more woody vanilla.
Mouthfeel- Fairly aggressive carbonation that is not on par with the rest of the beer. Honestly the worst part of the beer.
Drinkability- I really really enjoyed this beer (and so did my buddy, he's never tasted a bourbon barrel aged beer). The rye isn't necessarily front and center but there are a lot of big flavors in this brew. The carbonation also needs toned down a bit but otherwise tremendous brewski. Thanks much, amazingly generous!
