Pours a deep brown, almost black. Good sized foamy slightly off-white head sticks around for a good bit and leaves a nice layer of lace coating the walls of the glass. Lots of tiny bubbles slowly rise to the top of the glass.
Smells of caramel malt with a nice sweetness. Hint of toffee and a touch of roasted malt. Small hint of actual scotch in there which is strange but not unwelcome. From the aroma alone you can tell this beer has a good bit of carbonation. Aroma isn't all that strong as one would expect from a beer like this.
Tons of smokey malt up front almost overwhelms the palate. Tons of toffee and caramel in there. Medium carbonation with fine bubbles fizzing on the palate. Medium/light sweetness imparted by the malt. Smokey flavor comes back again. Roasty and full flavored. The smokey flavor sticks around in the mouth for a good while after each sip.
The appearance and aroma of this beer were a bit of a letdown but they're made up for in the taste of this brew. Super flavorful and tasty.
