Yet another beautifully tasty beverage from Sixpoint via BeerTruth. Great brewery, great buddy. Drank from my Harriet Brewing nonic pint glass.

Appearance- Pours a nice dark black with hints of dark brown around the edges. A half inch creamy light tan head sits atop the beer almost the entire time. Plenty of rich thick lacing rings down the entire glass.
Smell- You can tell from first whiff this is no regular stout. Actually, if blindfolded you’d never guess this was a stout at all. Very herbally and earthy with a blast of hops that is totally unexpected. Bits of pine and grass mixes in along with dirt (seriously) and hints of chocolate. That hint of chocolate is literally the only ode to the Stout.
Taste- Starts with a big bold bite of brash hoppy goodness. Like the nose it’s very herbally and piney with a long lingering bite. Maybe a touch of grapefruit pith but it’s fleeting and gets lost in the all the earthy tones. Unlike the nose though there is a sign of something ‘stout’ like in here. A fair amount of chocolate and roast mix in adding a strange dimension not often experienced with this sort of hop bite. The finish is dry and bitter with a long lingering roast.
Mouthfeel- Silky smooth with a nice hefty body and the lightest touch of carbonation.
Overall- I have to start by saying I’m not a big fan of Black IPA’s. Hops and dark malts don’t mix. But, saying that - I love this beer. It’s bitter and brash and roasty and all totally works. This beer is 100% unique in every way and I enjoyed the shit out of it. Thanks Adam!
