Pours Ford paint code Ginger Glow in the glass (a good thing for a brown ale), with an offwhite head that hangs on forever. Aroma fairly rocks - lightly roast coffee, nutty brown grains with earthy hops, and an underlying toffee apple malt.
Starts with a fine, balanced nutty (hazlenut) flavor on the tongue, with faint toastiness and a bit of Red Delicious with toffee apple sweetness in there, nice bitterness on the tongue. Hops are there, earthy although there are Cascades in here, slight graininess as well, drinkable as hell. Faint coffee notes wisp around in here as well. Finish is a fine melding of all of the above, very clean. Slightly fizzy mouthfeel keeps the brew from opening up like I'd hope, but it goes away with time,
Really enjoyed this one. Reminds me a LOT of the Dark Brown Ale from the now-gone Malt River Brewing Co. that Charles Noll brewed and I decimated in short order. Eight growlers if I recall correctly... yeah, I like this one.
Thanks to TipTop for the bottle!
