Dark ruddy brownish red pour ending up inky black and impenetrably thick. A mega thick and bubbly cap of dark tan foam hefts itself to about an inch of fluffy goodness. Thin sheeted lacing and torn patches scar the glass with might.
Aroma is muted but pleasingly complexed with malt and soft alluring spice. It's darkly seeded in a maltitude of maltyness with deep a fruityness of dates and fig with an enchanting pull of dark rum warmth. Graciously hinted with coconut oil, vanilla, maple, and black licorice.
Bold toned flavors meld the malts very seemlessly into one big yummy wave of goodness. Taking very dark efforts of figs and dates to converge on the palate and coat it with a lavish gooey excrement. Tenderly tangy, darkly sweet, and softly decorated with powdery cocoa, creamy fudge, and cinnamon. Dashed with dark rum warmth late as it cinders simply with nips of vanilla and dark chocolate truffles. Yum!
Body is closing in on full, as at first it slips right down with amazing ease. But it gradually builds a sinuous girth that settles in like a warm campfire on a chilly early Spring evening. The malts are very well rendered and are on an amazingly darkened display of complexity and softly latered tones. It weaves a bold chewy goo of dark fruits and chocolate while warming the gullet with rummy candy/bakery spices and super light feathery dryness. Ummm...13%...really? It has some warmth, sure, but its hidden well. Waldo could use quite a few lessons from this sneaky big brew.
