Coffee Grounds, Eau Claire

Sand Creek's Imperial Porter pours chestnut brown with glowing ruby highlights. A two finger creamy ecru head formed on the pour that eventually faded to a skimming with tall edges. Leaves moderate lacing after each sip. Good looking porter.

Great aroma on this beer. First thing to hit the nose is a creamy lactic quality. Roasty malts are present and make up a solid base. The cream lingers in and out as a berry and brown sugar sweetness comes through toward the middle. Very mild coffee and molasses on the backend makes this one delicious smelling porter.

Finish is perfectly in step with the aroma. This is one of the better Baltic style porters I've had. Roasty malts with a creamy middle, berry and brown sugar sweetness. Finishes up with mild freshly ground coffee beans and molasses. All the while the sweet balancing out the roasty malt acidity. Slight alcohol on the finish just adds more complexity. Excellent flavor.

Medium bodied with a smooth gentle carbonation. Velvety body makes it for a pleasurable drink.

Tonight is a cool evening (one of the first of the year) and this is just the beer I want to be drinking to keep warm.

Like I stated earlier this is one of the better Baltic style porters I've sampled and I hope it becomes something Sand Creek produces every year. High quality porter.

Thanks to TT for the bopple!

Pours a drrp opaque brown with a tannish head that lasts a little while before fading away. Aroma of brown sugar and toffee, hints of anise.

Flavor has a licorice and brown sugar flavor that sings throughout - it's well balanced, but not my favorite combo. Some alcoholic warmth near the end, along with some toffee and sweet chewy malt. Hops were kept safely locked in the vault for this one. Definitely in the big Baltic style, almost some old ale notes in here. Chewy but not overly so, fizzy but not overly so.

Tasted like around an 8% brew, but I may be wildly off here. Definitely enjoyed it more as it went along - interesting and not a same-old brew.

A - Pours a dark brown muddy body. No light getting through here. Toffee colored head is a little fizzy and slowly dissipating.

S - Rich lightly roasted malts. Chocolate, toffee and caramel. Some black licorice. Light dark fruits.

T - Starts off with some chocolate and a touch of espresso bean. Toffee comes in with even more sweet dark malt flavors. Anise, light caramel, and dates all play parts here.

M - Medium bodied. Slightly fuzzy.

Overall - I like where Sand Creek is going here with starting to brew some bigger beers. Pretty drinkable. I wonder what the abv is.
