"Fancy Lawnmower"
That's the name on the bottle. "Fancy"? From Texas? Unpossible! A quality Kolsch? From Texas? Unpossible!
We'll see. I did get this bottle from Mar, I should point out. He's in Texas. Poor guy.
Color is a bright yellow/golden. As expected. Aroma has a nice grassy/malt sweetness. Maye that's where they get the "Lawnmower" part. I will says this though, the aroma is a bit stronger than other examples of the style. I like that. The taste is equally notable. You get a very quick burst of hop bitterness, then a grassy and malty sweetness at the end. The sweetness fades and the bitterness sticks around for a second. Not a big bitterness though. Feel is thinner to medium.
Overall, I will say that this one is a very very good example of the Kolsch style. A bit more "Smelly" than most of the style, but I don't knock it for that. It IS from Texas after all, and EVERYTHING is bigger in Texas. A great summer type beer, and since it's above freezing here in Chicago as I type (42', yee haw!), it almost "feels" like summer.
