This review as actually for the ask conditioned draft, but my review numbers are for the standard version, for consistency. Overall I rate the cask conditioned at a 92. Unlike the standard Amber Ale by St. Arnold's, the cask conditioned Altered Amber has a taste more like a Belgium beer a la Chimay (yes, high praise I know). The standard "Altared" Amber is clear and light in color, whereas the cask conditioned version is a little darker and more cloudy, due to the active yeast in the cask. The cask version has a much smoother, fuller and rounder feel up front and continues on all the way through to the smooth finish. As this beer is still alive in the cask it does change as it ages (that's the idea) so your experience may differ. While not having much sweetness up front it does deliver a plethora of fruit nuances that twinkle in and out of the palate. To me it is much more enjoyable than the standard Altered Amber and better than the regular Amber Ale. It's much more complex than either, in a good way. Overall its extremely enjoyable.
