Binny's Orland
I've been looking for this beer and finally found it. Poured a darker than amber red. Looks like a strong iced tea. A 1 finger ruddy ever so slightly off white eggshell head appeared on the pour and stuck around for quite awhile. Left skinny drink lines after each sip.
After taking a whiff of the freshly opened bottle I got a big dose of hops from the dry hopping. When the beer was poured into my glass I took a few more deep smells and get a metallic twang in there with the mildly citric and floral hops. There's a mild tea leaf aroma in there as well. Smells good but the metallic aroma detracts slightly from the smell.
I love big hoppy red ales and was hoping that's what I would encounter here. Not quite. Starts with a mild caramel maltiness that stays there in the back throughout mixed with a slight biscuit maltiness mid-palate. The iced tea shows itself in the flavor again. The floral tea leaf quality of the hops shine throughout the drink along with a squeeze of lemon juice. Mildly bitter finish. Not as hoppy as I'd prefer but a good solid beer.
The body is on the lighter side of medium. Moderate carbonation. The body works through my mouth slowly leavign the mild bitterness.
This is an easy drinker. Good sessionable brew.
Dry Hopped St. Rogue Red isn't quite what I thought it was going to be. I pictured a solid red ale with a good hop kick. Unfortuanately the bitterness I was expecting just wasn't there. Still an enjoyable and extremely sessionable beer.
