Old Review

Get this on-tap at The J. Clyde in Birmingham, Alabama. Presented in a pint tumbler.

A: A nice copper to dark brown with a great head that lasts long into the beer.

S: You get a little bit of roasted malt and coffee, but a lot of hazelnut. Smells amazing.

T: You guessed it, hazelnut. You get a bit of coffee, chocolate, and grains, but plenty of nuttiness. If you love hazelnut, as most Germans like myself do, you will love this beer.

M: Good carbonation with a little bit of a syrupy effect, but nothing to turn you off the beer.

D: It is mighty tasty. You can get in over your head like my buddy did during last years Magic City Brewfest. He never left the Rogue vendor and almost got sick off the combination of sweetness and the heat. Still a great beer, but not meant for heavy drinking. Savor this one, people.

A - Nice brown pour. Tan head. Head fades kinda quickly.

S - Nutty, kinda smells like coffee. Subtle scent, not overpowering. Sweet.

T - You can definitely taste the hazelnut immediately. It's got flavor but not an overwhelming amount. Rogue kept it simple with this one....simple but well done.

M - Smooth. First thing I thought of when I tasted it....very very smooth.

Very smooth, easy to drink but flavorful at the same time. Definitely would buy this again.

A - Pours a nice, clean nut brown colored body. Dark tan head is about a half finger and made of tight bubbles. Head falls quickly, leaving a nice ring around the glass.

S - Obviously nutty. Sweet malts bring forth caramel and sweetness. There seems to be a touch of chocolate lying in there somewhere too.

T - Taste is a nice combination of sweet and nutty. Hazelnut is actually quite easy to detect. The sweetness comes in the form of light caramel and toffee with a touch of chocolate. Malts are slightly roasty. Just a touch of hops with a slightly bitter wash.

M - Medium bodied with light carbonation.

D - Nice easy drinker. Solid flavor which is more than you are used to with most browns out there.

Finaly get to try this other than a 4oz sample. Very good pour. Dark amber into a nice light tan head. Smell is nutty and malts. Tase is great, IMO. Very up front hazelnut. Very rich in flavor. Smooth, sweet finish with even more hazel nut aftertaste.
