A huge thanks to Dr.Bill for the surprise of the night, at least for me, of the SeaofFloydster Tasting on March 28th. I remember Dr.Bill saying that this beer was the "grandfather of Santa's Little Helper" and brewed/bottled around 1998.
Poured like any other stout, dark but little to no head which is not too surprising for an imperial stout that is over a decade old.
Has almost a bourbon barrel-aged aroma, is it barrel-aged? It seems like it is. Some sherry and oxidation, slight leather, chocolate, black cherry, rum soaked raisins, figs, and brown sugar.
Wow, this tastes great. Roasted and chocolate malts, milk chocolate, liquid fudge, hints of toasted almonds and vanilla pound cake. Really mellow and smooth and has held incredibly well for being a decade old. Hardly any carbonation but the sweetness combines really well with the smooth body of the beer.
