12oz. Bottle
$6.49 6-Pack

Old Rasputin poured the darkest of browns into my pint glass. Mahogany highlights when held directly to the light. A 2+ finger beige head formed, on an aggressive pour, that slowly faded. Left sticky lacing all the way down the glass.

The aroma is very appetizing. Lightly roasted malts with big notes of freshly ground coffee beans. Bittersweet chocolate and a mild nuttiness are also present and add to the complexity. Slight alcohol fumes show up at the backend.

Flavor is layered more than the aroma. The roasted malts set the stage for waves of chocolate followed by the freshly ground coffee beans. The nuttiness and a hint of vanilla glide through on the swallow and mellow things out before the fusel alcohol hits in the throat. A light coffee ground bitterness lingers nicely.

Body is on the heavy side of medium but is supremely smooth. Velvety with a nice alcohol warmth in the throat.

This is a very easy drinking Imp. stout. Very enjoyable and if the weather is right one I can easily drink numerous bottles of.

This is my go to stout. Easy to find and the price for such a tasty Imp. Stout is unbeatable. A classic and for good reason.

Pours a light denying black. Thick and pillowy one finger+ mocha colored head-with excellent retention. Sticky lacing.

Aroma is of roasted malts-- coffee, caramel, cocoa and sweet chocolate. Nice.

Taste is of dark, bitter coffee. Smoky, charred taste. So much so, that it takes precedence over just about everything else... except for the dry and bitter hop finish, and this really sticks with 'ya.

Medium in body, slick and sticky mouthfeel. Nice carbonation.

The appearance and aroma really had me... until the taste. The overly burnt malt taste is a bit much. If you like that in your RIS- than this one is for you. Still, I did enjoy it, IMO, just a touch too much of a good thing...
Recommended.

Purchased at a Whole Foods in Atlanta, Ga as a four pack of bottles. Must say that this is a fine beer.

Black as night and allows (what appears to be) no light to penetrate. The foam
is almost brown, giving it a wonderful presentation.

Smell is of malt, chocolate, and alcohol.

Beautiful tastes of malt and chocolate, but has a fine taste of alcohol to give
you an appreciation of its power. There are bitter undertones in the after
taste, but this in no way hurts the beer.

As far as mouthfeel goes, it is a little heavy with the alcohol and does coat the mouth a bit but this is what you expect from an imperial stout.

This is not a good beer for meals in my opinion. It is going to overpower anything else that crosses your palate. It is a beer to be savored and appreciated. Fine after dinner beverage, but many can be conusmed and the price makes it just that much better.

Fine brew from a fine brewer.

Thanks Floydster for this beer.

I used to drink this beer more frequently, before I got into trading, and this was one of the beers that got me hooked into this particular style. I haven't had one of these in months. Let's see how it holds up now.

Pours jet black with a huge 3 finger thick head that slowly trickles down. The foam takes a few minutes to "settle" to an inch of foam and leaves behind thick soapy lacing behind.

Smells of citrus hops upfront, I forgot how hoppy this RIS is. Great toasted and bready malts in the background with some notes of toffee and milk chocolate. It smells like a citrus flavored chocolate. There are also some dark fruits hiding in the back along with some grains and a touch of alcohol.

Tastes of bitter chocolate with some citrus and deeply roasted barley finish. Lots of burnt toast and hops as well. Dark fruits and some alcohol. Tastes a little rough actually. I'm picking up some flavors of alcohol soaked raisins.

Great carbonation and almost silky mouthfeel.

Sadly, this one isn't what I remembered it to be and it's not even among my top 10 or 15 RIS I've tasted. Tastes too rough, the alcohol is a bit intrusive and it could use a sweeter chocolate taste instead of the dry, dark and bitter taste.

A - Pours a super dark brown (it's not quite black) opaque body that isn't going to let even a ray of light through. Starts with a small cocoa colored head, but now only a ring of bubbles around the glass.

S - Smells heavenly. Big chocolate and roasty malts. Chocolate cake, expresso and cocoa smells are big and at the forefront. Smells rich and decadent.

T - Chocolate cake comes in right at the beginning with that heavy sweetness to it. Some bitterness shows itself with a touch of coffee and roasted expresso beans. A whole different chocolate flavor follows, with some dusty cocoa.

M - Big and thick. Starts big rich and sort of syrupy, but somehow finishes with a dry feel. Smooth carbonation.

D - Very nice Imperial Stout. Highly recommended and maybe the best bargain out there as far as the style goes.

Nice dark beer, pours a solid black and good 3/4 head the slowly fades.

Good smell, choclate malts abundant with this one.

Good taste, chocolate malt, roasted barley and black malt are prominent.

Mouthfeel is good, smooth beer, goes down easy, nice carbonation.

I liked this beer, after having many RIS's I think that this feels a little lighter then what I am used to, but overall I enjoyed it.

I've had this beer plenty of times and have loved it for years.
Sampled at room temp.

Poured into my Stone Old Guardian glass.

Appearance is good. Black as night color. I mean really dark. Decent mocha-colored head materialized.

Smell is great. Turkish coffee, black coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts and alcohol fumes tickle the nose. Mouth-watering smell.

Taste is great as well. Same as the nose with a bit more Turkish coffee and dark chocolate. Wonderful flavor. Alcohol bites a little but is welcome in the flavor.

Mouthfeel is great. This stout coates the tongue as well as any RIS I've had. Carbonation is above average making this beer smooth in the finish.

Drinkability is good. I could drink a few 12oz bottles in one sitting but that would be about it and that's probably because of how big this beer is in terms of flavor and alcohol (9%).

Overall:
A fantastic beer and one of my favorite Russian Imperial Stouts. Luckily it's available year-round. Truly a classic example of the style.

9% alc.

This is what a beer should look like(Beer Monkey, :hey: ) Almost black with a good head that fades right to the top of the brew. It stays there for the duration of the tasting. Smell is great, very chocolaty, with a hint of alcohol. Chocolate, malt, alcohol fill the flavor.Awesome. might be a touch thin for an Imp, but very good none the less. Solid, solid brew.
